As an organiser, EMS 2025 Congress work hard when planning the congress to reduce the impact on the environment and climate. However, a congress of this size always affects the environment due to the amount of people participating in the congress. This leads to an increase in travel, food, waste, et cetera. To offset this, we encourage our partners to act in a sustainable way.
The congress works to have limited impact on the environment through careful consumption of energy and resources. This includes electronically distributed meeting materials and online file sharing. We do not produce unnecessary congress materials and products and if so, choose environmentally and socially friendly products. We make active choices to provide healthy and climate-smart food at the conference. Although a fully sustainable congress requires more preparation, it is worth the effort, as all measures can contribute to a positive impact on the environment and generate sustainable solutions for reducing climate impact.
These guidelines are provided to participants, contributors, exhibitors and entrepreneurs at the congress and aim to educate and inspire continued reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. These guidelines are continuously evaluated, as technology and mitigation options continue to change.

Stockholm is at the forefront when it comes to sustainability. Smart solutions that protect the climate and nature are visible everywhere and have become a natural part of everyday life. From public transport, climate adaptations at the city’s attractions, to the range of shops and restaurants that focus on locally grown ingredients and sustainable products. More and more people are also concerned that their stay in a city should have as little, or no, impact on the environment.
The Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre management prioritizes energy efficiency through innovative systems. The Centre uses its south-facing glass façade to collect solar energy, generating approximately 1 megawatt of heat energy daily. Additionally, an advanced cooling system utilizes water from nearby Lake Mälaren, stored in large ice tanks, to maintain optimal indoor temperatures while minimizing energy consumption.
The management also implements sustainable operational practices, including energy sharing between the complex’s office, hotel, and congress spaces. By adjusting energy distribution based on demand, they maximize efficiency and reduce waste. The Centre’s commitment to waste management ensures recycling and minimal landfill use, aligning with environmentally responsible event hosting.
Achieving and maintaining LEED Gold certification underscores the Centre’s dedication to sustainability. Management regularly reviews and updates practices to meet high environmental standards, including promoting green event planning and collaborating with stakeholders to support eco-friendly initiatives. These measures collectively make the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre a model for sustainable management.
Setting the tone as a leading congress in the industry, EMS 2025 and local partner organisations recognises that we have a responsibility to preserve the environment and will endeavor to perform environmental management based on a good balance between environmental conservation and business development.
We will also proactively disseminate information and proposals to the public in order to contribute to the realisation and expansion of a sustainable society, as a good corporate citizen.
